MILLTHORPE
OLYMPIC SPIRIT OF BALRYAN
"Dillon"
Dillon settled in immediately when
brought home. He was a lovely,
playful puppy who relentlessly tormented Elliot. As Dillon grew
he would
scoot through the room,
with Elliot close behind, flip
onto his side and disappear under the settee to escape. He had
this
off to a fine art. Howover,
the day came when he was too big
to do this, he was taken by surprise!
- and was lucky to have such a gentle playmate as Elliot, who
would never collide but seemed to glide
over him.
Dillon, how do I describe him? He has that extra-special something,
is very handsome and has a loveable, faithful nature - altogether
just perfect! Since he was a puppy Dillon has done extremely well
in the show ring (click wins below), but also has Disneyland potential.
When Trevor talks to him, Dillon listens to every word and appears
to be taking everything in (as do most Newfoundlands). He looks
so appealing, with his eyes growing larger, ears cocked and head
tilting from side to side. One of these days I will capture this
on camera.
" Chase me" around the table is a game
Dillon also likes. He lets us know he wants to play by strutting
up, head
dipped slightly and eyes looking up.
He then starts a low yapping noise and makes Zulu Warrior-type
movements with his front legs
- it's quite amusing.
Dillon enjoys Hamsterley Forest, especially wallowing
in the river, head and back just above the water. Further on
he and Rodney
wade through a pool which has an area
they could swim in - but rarely do. Trevor even throws titbits
to encourage them, but they
have the easy way sussed and wait for
the current to carry the treats down to them - intelligence!
However, when we allow Dillon
to sit on the settee he always ends
up facing the opposite way to whomever he sits with - usually
looking round as if to say "I
will figure this out!”
Although no confrontations, Dillon seems to have established
himself in the role of ‘top dog’. Elliot has no problem with this,
nor does Rodney, but I feel that maybe he will quietly take over
sometime - we'll wait and see.
